The Petroleum Division has decided to seek IMF approval to introduce a uniform gas tariff across Pakistan from July 1, 2027.
Under the proposed plan, the government will have to abolish the existing cross-subsidy system and allocate approximately Rs162 billion to provide targeted financial assistance to low-income households.
The proposed reforms will eliminate Pakistan’s existing 12-slab gas tariff system, under which consumers pay different rates according to their monthly gas consumption.
Instead, all consumer categories will gradually be shifted towards a uniform average tariff of approximately Rs1,708 per MMBtu.
