Islamabad: The hearing of a case regarding holding nationwide elections on a single day will be held in the Supreme Court today. The order of the Supreme Court to hold elections on May 14 remains intact.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial will hear the case today. In addition to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the bench includes Justice Ejaz ul Hassan and Justice Munib Akhtar.
Major political parties across the country have also been asked by the court to express their stance. Yesterday, notices were issued to all parties, including the Attorney General of Pakistan and political groups.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled that negotiations by political parties are their own effort and no directive has been issued by the court in this regard. However, the Supreme Court’s order to hold elections on May 14 remains in place.
