In a significant move, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will send the summary of the dissolution of the National Assembly to the President Dr. Arif Alvi today.
On August 6th, the government had announced that the assemblies would be dissolved three days before August 9th (today) for analysis, after which elections would be held within 90 days.
Speaking at an event at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi yesterday, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said, “Upon the completion of the current government’s term, on Wednesday (today), I will send the summary to the President of Pakistan for the analysis of the National Assembly.”
During a separate meeting with media organizations, the Prime Minister said that the authority to determine the future course of action regarding elections after the analysis of the assembly has been given to the Chief Election Commissioner. However, all parties agree that elections should be held as soon as possible.
Today, the Prime Minister is chairing the final session of the federal cabinet, which is currently underway in Islamabad.
During the session, the Prime Minister will take the members of the cabinet into confidence on the formation of the caretaker government, which includes representation from all coalition parties.
