The Senate Standing Committee on Information was informed during a meeting that the government issued advertisements worth 9.6 billion rupees to the media during the past one and a half years.
The committee meeting was chaired by Fauzia Arshad, in which the Information Secretary briefed that during the one and a half years, 3.5 billion rupees were given in advertisements to the print media, 4.89 billion rupees to the electronic media, and 1.23 billion rupees to digital media.
The committee inquired about the criteria for issuing advertisements, to which the Principal Information Officer explained that the rates are determined based on TV channel ratings and newspaper circulation.
The committee also sought details of advertisement rates for different channels.
