In continuation of the vibrant Japan Fest 2024, the Pakistan Japan Cultural Association Sindh(PJCA) under the auspices of the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi and in collaboration with the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi proudly presents a unique cultural fusion event.
“Waka Raag & Demonstration of Ikebana”
This event showcases a harmonious blend of ancient Japanese and Pakistani cultural
traditions:
• “Waka” Poetry in Local Raags: Timeless waka poetry, selected from the renowned Japanese anthology Kokinshū has been translated into Urdu by Mr. Shahzad Niaz, an attorney by profession and a poet by passion. The compositions in classical Pakistani rags have been masterfully created by Ustad Mehboob Ali Khan, who will perform them alongside two rising stars of Karachi’s music scene, Ms. Katherine Shad and Mr. Moeed Farooqui.
• Classical Dance Performance: Pakistan’s renowned classical dance artist, Ms. Sheema Kermani will enchant the audience with her mesmerizing dance performance, adding another layer of grace and artistry to the evening.
• Ikebana Demonstration: Pakistan’s distinguished Ikebana expert, Professor Asifa Ataka will demonstrate the elegance of Japanese flower arrangement art concurrently with the Waka Raag performances and classical dance.
Chief Guest: The Honorable Consul General of Japan, Mr. Hattori Masaru, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
This captivating evening aims to strengthen the cultural and literary ties between Pakistan and Japan, celebrating their shared appreciation for poetry, literature, music, dance, and art.
