The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the Men’s T20 Team of the Year for 2024, with former Pakistan captain Babar Azam earning a spot as the only Pakistani representative.
According to reports, India’s Rohit Sharma has been named captain of the T20 Team of the Year, while four players from the ICC T20 World Cup–winning Indian side have been included. One player each from Australia, England, the West Indies, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka also features in the squad.
Meanwhile, the ICC revealed its 2024 Test Team of the Year yesterday, comprising players who excelled in the longest format of the game. Cricket superstars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Babar Azam missed out on this selection due to ongoing lackluster form.
Led by Pat Cummins, the Test Team includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ben Duckett, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Kamindu Mendis, Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Matt Henry, and Jasprit Bumrah.
No Pakistani player made it into the Test Team, but three—Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf—have been named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2024. Sri Lanka tops the list for most selections in the ODI side, with four players included. Pakistan and Afghanistan each have three, and the West Indies have one.
Notably, none of the teams from cricket superpower Australia (the reigning ODI World Cup champions), India, England, New Zealand, or South Africa contributed a single player to the ODI lineup.
