Producer Renu Chopra praised Shah Rukh Khan for funding her son’s debut film Ittefaq without charging interest.
The late filmmaker Ravi Chopra’s wife and producer Renu Chopra, in a recent interview, lauded Shah Rukh Khan’s generosity. She recalled how Shah Rukh supported her son Abhay Chopra’s directorial debut Ittefaq when they lacked funds and even refused to charge interest on the amount.
Renu Chopra reminisced about how Shah Rukh Khan came on board for the 2017 film Ittefaq. She said, “When we were making Ittefaq, Shah Rukh’s office and our office shared a common wall. We decided to make the film with him. I asked him if I should come over, but he said, ‘No, you don’t need to come; I will come to you.’ However, when he didn’t visit for three weeks, I decided to take the initiative.”
Recalling her meeting with Shah Rukh, Chopra shared, “When I reached out to him, he welcomed me with an open heart and asked what I needed. When I told him I didn’t have the funds to invest in the film, he said, ‘I will provide it.’ I told him my son would make the film with all his heart. It was my youngest son Abhay’s first film. He didn’t even read the script and agreed to support it. He said, ‘If your son is involved, I will stand by him.'”
She revealed that the superstar refused to take interest. When the film was completed, like all other financial arrangements, there is usually an interest rate, but Shah Rukh said, “No, this is haram for me. I will not take it.”
Ittefaq was produced by Shah Rukh Khan and written and directed by Abhay Chopra. The film starred Sidharth Malhotra, Akshaye Khanna, and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles and performed well at the box office.
Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in the action-thriller film King. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film reportedly features Abhishek Bachchan and Shah Rukh’s daughter Suhana Khan in significant roles.
At an event in Dubai’s Global Village, SRK spoke about the film and said, “I am not just shooting it here; I will continue shooting it in Mumbai when I return in two months. My director Siddharth Anand is very strict. He said not to tell people about the film or what you are doing in it. So, I can’t tell you, but I assure you it will entertain you. You will enjoy it.”
