The first phase of the Safe City Project has been launched, establishing a full-scale police monitoring system across four major districts of Karachi. As part of the initiative, seven POP (Police Observation Point) sites have been activated, with 51 personnel deployed in three shifts.
Under the directives of Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, police units have been allocated for this phase. According to DG Safe City Asif Ejaz Shaikh, five specialized emergency response vehicles have also been stationed at the POP sites.
Monitoring has begun in East, Malir, South, and City districts. Each POP site has four officers working in eight-hour shifts. Joint operations by the police and traffic police are now underway.
Control rooms have been established at the Artillery Maidan, Civil Lines, and Boat Basin POP sites, while Aziz Bhatti, Ferozabad, Airport, and Tipu Sultan police stations are also conducting direct surveillance.
Round-the-clock deployment has been ensured at Shaheen Complex, Data Corner, and People’s Square. Emergency response vehicles are positioned near the Stock Exchange and Habib Bank Plaza. DG Safe City added that all deployed officers are receiving specialized training.
