The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that the Senate by-election for the seat vacated following the disqualification of Shibli Faraz will be held tomorrow.
According to the ECP, voting will take place in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Khurram Shehzad as its candidate, while Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Nisar Khan and three independent candidates are also contesting.
It is worth noting that on August 5, 2025, the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified nine legislators, including Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz and National Assembly Opposition Leader Omar Ayub.
Following the decision, the ECP issued a notification de-seating all disqualified members. They were disqualified after being convicted in cases related to the May 9 incidents.
The disqualified lawmakers included one senator, five members of the National Assembly, and three members of the Punjab Assembly. Among them were Shibli Faraz, Omar Ayub, Hamid Raza, Rai Haider, Rai Hasan, Rai Murtaza, Zartaj Gul, Ansar Iqbal, and Junaid Afzal.
A few days earlier, an anti-terrorism court in Faisalabad had sentenced Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul Wazir, and 196 other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders and workers to up to 10 years in prison in three May 9-related cases.
