A landslide on the Karakoram Highway in the Chilas district of Gilgit-Baltistan buried six vehicles under debris, while several passenger vehicles were also struck, and two vehicles plunged into the river.
According to Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq, initial reports suggest that some individuals may have been trapped under the debris following the landslide near the Gandlu area.
In the incident along the Karakoram Highway, at least six vehicles were buried by the landslide, while several other passenger vehicles were affected, and two of them fell into the river.
The GB government spokesperson stated that the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has taken notice of the situation and ordered the rescue operation to be accelerated. Emergency has also been imposed in nearby hospitals.
Faizullah Firaq added that no loss of life has been confirmed so far in the landslide near Gandlu, while some passengers managed to save themselves by jumping out of their vehicles in time.
