Islamabad: The head of the opposition alliance, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, has announced that a formal protest movement against the government will begin on Friday.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad alongside other opposition leaders, Achakzai said that the government’s actions regarding the 27th Constitutional Amendment and several other matters are unacceptable, which is why the opposition will launch a nationwide protest campaign from Friday.
He further stated that the opposition is fully prepared for negotiations, but any dialogue will only move forward on the condition that their mandate is returned and the public’s decision is respected.
It is noteworthy that the National Assembly approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill yesterday with a two-thirds majority, while the newly drafted amendment text will be sent to the Senate today for approval.
