Islamabad: Chairman of the Arif Habib Group, Arif Habib, has said that the consortium wanted to acquire 100 percent of the shares of the national airline PIA, but under the current privatization process, it secured a majority stake.
Speaking to a private television channel, Arif Habib said that Fauji Fertilizer could become part of the consortium, which would create further opportunities for investment in the national airline.
He said that PIA is a national institution that has seen its very best days in the past. He described it as an excellent airline, adding that all its employees are capable, experienced, and fully understand their responsibilities.
Arif Habib stated that the privatization of PIA was completed transparently and that fresh investment will be injected into the national airline. He said this investment will enable PIA to provide better and improved services to its customers.
He further said that transparent privatization will increase the confidence of foreign investors, open new avenues for investment, and create employment opportunities, adding that efforts will be made to restore PIA to its former glory.
It is noteworthy that PIA hotels located in Paris and New York have not been included in the privatization process.
