Traffic on the Karakoram Highway has been severely disrupted after rainfall triggered landslides at several locations in Upper Kohistan, resulting in road blockages at multiple points.
According to officials, the landslides have temporarily cut off Gilgit-Baltistan’s road connection with other parts of the country, causing significant difficulties for travelers and transport operators.
Authorities stated that rescue and restoration operations are underway to clear debris and reopen roads, allowing traffic to resume as soon as possible.
Due to the highway closure, hundreds of passenger vehicles and cargo trucks have been stranded at various points along the Karakoram Highway, resulting in long queues and major transportation disruptions.
The district administration confirmed that 60 stranded passengers have been shifted to a shelter where they are being provided with necessary facilities and assistance.
