The federal government has begun preparations to provide petrol subsidies to low-income individuals amid the ongoing energy crisis, introducing a digital system for targeted relief.
On government directives, the Ministry of Information Technology has developed an application for distributing petrol subsidies, which is currently in the testing phase and expected to be implemented soon.
According to sources, the subsidy will initially be provided to two- and three-wheeler vehicles, including motorcycles and rickshaws, while price increases in the global market will be passed on to other consumers.
Sources added that a final decision on extending subsidies to vehicles up to 800cc has not yet been made, while a quota system is being considered for two- and three-wheelers, with a proposal to allocate up to 20 liters of petrol per month for motorcycles.
It was further revealed that special nozzles will be designated at around 12,000 petrol pumps across the country, and each pump will be equipped with two mobile devices to facilitate fuel distribution through the app.
