US President Donald Trump has once again referred to the Pakistan-India conflict, claiming that 11 aircraft were shot down during the fighting between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Speaking to the media, Trump said he helped prevent a potential nuclear war between Pakistan and India and claimed his intervention saved 30 million lives.
According to Trump, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also told him that stopping the war had saved the lives of 30 million people.
Trump has repeatedly spoken about his role in securing a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. His claims have frequently drawn criticism and frustration from the Indian government.
The latest remarks could once again increase political pressure on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while giving the opposition Indian National Congress another opportunity to criticise his government.
Trump also spoke about his popularity in Israel, claiming it had reached 99%, and questioned why Jewish voters in the United States would support the Democratic Party.
