Former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen has claimed that Israeli operatives visited Iran’s underground Fordow nuclear facility several times in an effort to understand the site.
According to Israeli media, Cohen said the Fordow nuclear facility had been visited multiple times to better understand it. However, he did not disclose when the alleged visits took place or who was involved in them.
Cohen also praised the US attack on the Fordow nuclear facility during military action against Iran in 2025.
Referring to the US bombing of the facility, the former Mossad chief said the American strike was the fulfilment of all his dreams.
Apart from Fordow, Iran’s Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities were also targeted by US strikes during the 12 day war between Israel and Iran in June 2025, causing severe damage to the sites.
Commenting on Iran’s stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 per cent, Cohen said the material was still far from being sufficient to produce an atomic bomb.
Nuclear experts, however, say uranium enriched to 60 per cent is already close to weapons grade levels and could be further enriched to produce material suitable for a nuclear weapon.
Yossi Cohen served as the head of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency from 2015 to 2021. After leaving office, he gave a rare television interview in which he offered several significant hints about Mossad operations targeting Iran’s nuclear programme.
