10,000 elected municipal representatives from across Sindh will take their oaths today, including 1,200 representatives from the Karachi division.
In the local government elections, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is leading with 99 seats, followed by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) with 86 seats, and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at third place with 41 seats.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had announced a boycott of the local government elections.
The PPP has not yet been able to reach a final decision regarding the mayors of Karachi and Hyderabad. According to sources, three prominent names are being considered for the position of Karachi mayor: Murtaza Wahab, Najmi Alam, and Masroor Ahsan.
The party has received 10 applications for the position of Karachi mayor and deputy mayor.
More than 8 applications have been received for the positions of mayor and deputy mayor of Hyderabad. The final announcement of the mayor is expected next week.
