Islamabad: Justice Musarrat Halali Takes Oath as Supreme Court Judge.Chief Justice of Pakistan, Omar Ata Bandial, administered the oath to Justice Musarrat Halali in a swearing-in ceremony attended by Supreme Court judges, Attorney General, and lawyers.
With the oath-taking of Justice Musarrat Halali, the number of judges in the Supreme Court has reached 16, making her the second female judge responsible for judicial duties in the Supreme Court. Previously, Justice Ayesha Malik had taken the oath as the first female judge on January 24, 2022.
Who is Justice Musarrat Halali?
Born on August 8, 1961, in Peshawar, Justice Musarrat Halali obtained a law degree from Khyber Law College. She enrolled as an advocate in the District Court in 1983. In 1988, she worked as an advocate in the High Court, and in 2006, she served as an advocate in the Supreme Court.
Justice Musarrat Halali was the first female Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court and also served as the first female Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She held this position from 2001 to 2004.
On April 1, 2023, she took the oath as the Acting Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, and then on May 12, 2023, she was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court.
