The ‘Jashan-e-Azadi Mushaira,’ held on 19 August 2024 at the Jinnah Auditorium of the Karachi Bar Association, was a vibrant celebration of poetry and patriotism. Organized by Bazm-e-Shora-e-Bar Karachi in collaboration with Pak-British Arts International (Sindh Chapter), the event brought together renowned poets, lawyers, and literature enthusiasts to commemorate Pakistan’s independence.
The Mushaira was presided over by the esteemed poet Firoz Natiq Khusro, with the renowned lawyer and author Mr. Salim Salam Ansari serving as the chief guest. Among the distinguished guests of honor were notable poetess Rehana Roohi and Dr. Qamar Rizvi. The event was coordinated by Mr. Shoukat Kamal Cheema, Chairman of Bazm-e-Shora-e-Bar Karachi, who played a pivotal role in ensuring its success.
The evening began with the soulful rendition of the national anthem of Pakistan, setting a tone of reverence and national pride. A cake-cutting ceremony followed, marking the foundation day anniversary of Pak-British Arts International (Sindh Chapter) and adding to the festive atmosphere.
In his opening address, Mr. Shoukat Kamal Cheema highlighted the role of Bazm-e-Shora-e-Bar Karachi in fostering a love for literature within the legal community. He recounted the forum’s past literary events and shared insights into future activities aimed at further promoting literary culture among lawyers. Poetess Naheed Azmi, President of Pak-British Arts International (Sindh Chapter), then took the stage to introduce her forum, emphasizing its contributions to society and the importance of cultural and literary activities in enriching the community and fostering national pride.
As the Mushaira unfolded, poets shared their profound thoughts and emotions on the themes of independence and the beauty of Pakistan, captivating the audience with their eloquence and depth. While many poems were dedicated to the sentiments of patriotism, the evening also showcased a diverse array of ghazals and nazams on various topics, reflecting the rich diversity of Urdu poetry.
