The government has agreed to do away with the category of non-filers and has decided to impose 15 restrictions on non-taxpayers.
FBR announced several restrictions targeting non-filers to enhance tax compliance and broaden the tax base, the non-filer category will be abolished.
According to the report of Moqar Qaumi newspaper, the Federal Board of Revenue has decided to abolish the category of non-filers and impose 15 restrictions on those who do not pay taxes. The initial limits include the purchase of property, purchase of vehicles, investment in mutual funds, and current accounts. Includes opening and international travel (other than religious travel).
FBR Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langriyal revealed that 15 specific activities will be banned for non-filers of tax returns, focusing initially on 5 key areas. These are part of the transformation plan which the Prime Minister has approved.
Criticizing the concept of non-filers, Chairman FBR said that such classifications are not found worldwide and should be abolished and the focus should be on tax-compliant and non-compliant individuals. Will identify non-filers through machine learning and algorithms.
