The federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was delayed twice. The meeting was supposed to be held at 9:30 AM today, but the time was changed to 12:00 PM. Now reports are being received that the meeting could not start even at 12 pm and according to the changed time the meeting will now be held at 7 pm. The meeting is likely to approve the constitutional amendment draft.
In this regard, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that they are delaying the meetings to create consensus, we have the required number.
Talking to the journalists, he said that it is better if the constitutional amendment is agreed upon. In response to a question about Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PTI showing any flexibility, he said that it would be premature for me to say anything.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that we have the numbers when asked what will be done if there is no agreement.
It should be noted that the special committee of the parliament had approved the constitutional amendment draft, after which the meeting of the federal cabinet was called immediately. The meeting of the Federal Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister ended without approval.
Important meetings of the National Assembly and the Senate will be held again today. The constitutional amendments could not be presented in the sittings of both houses on Friday. The Senate meeting was adjourned till 11:00.
The meeting of the National Assembly will be held at three o’clock in the afternoon. Constitutional amendments are likely to be tabled in both houses for approval.
The 9-point agenda of the National Assembly session has been released. There is no constitutional amendment on the agenda of the meeting. According to the sources, in case of agreement, the constitutional amendment will be brought as a supplementary agenda.
Sources said that the motion to suspend the regular agenda for the constitutional amendment will be approved, the report of the Standing Committee on the Legal Aid and Justice Authority Amendment Bill will be submitted.
According to the agenda, the Legal Aid and Justice Authority Amendment Bill will be presented for approval, including a notice calling attention to irregularities in the collection of general sales tax.
