The Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court dismissed the plea against the extension of the tenure of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir. A 7-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin heard the application regarding the extension of the tenure of Army Chief General Asim Munir.
The petition against the extension of the tenure of Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir was filed by Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi.
The Constitution Bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, consists of Justice Jamal Khan Mandukhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Musrat Hilali and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.
The Constitution Bench, while deciding the case, dismissed the petition. The Constitution Bench dismissed the petition for non-compliance, while the registrar’s office upheld the objection of inadmissibility of the petition.
Last week, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court had scheduled a total of more than 2,000 cases for hearing this week, including the extension of the army chief’s tenure and the formation of the Audio Leaks Commission.
It should be noted that at the beginning of this month, an amendment bill was approved regarding the extension of the tenure of the three armed forces chiefs from 3 to 5 years.
Later, Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani signed the bill approved by the National Assembly and Senate regarding increasing the tenure of the Army Chief, Air Chief, and Naval Chief from 3 to 5 years.
