Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Atta Tarar, has denied any contact or negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
While speaking on a private channel program, Atta Tarar stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has not met Asad Qaiser. He said that government officials and PTI leaders are coming to condole with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, during which informal meetings are taking place, but no formal negotiations have begun.
The Federal Minister for Information said that PTI should first express remorse over the events of May 9 and November 26. He questioned who would trust PTI’s words or provide guarantees for them, as they had reneged during the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
Regarding Barrister Gohar’s speech in the National Assembly yesterday, Atta Tarar remarked that those who stirred chaos on May 9 are now talking about resolving issues. He accused PTI of fabricating a false narrative about gunfire and questioned why they had not provided evidence if shots were fired. He added that those who fled the scene are now making excuses.
Atta Tarar further alleged that miscreants armed with slingshots, marbles, stones, stun guns, and firearms stormed Islamabad, killing and injuring police and Rangers personnel. He questioned who would compensate for this damage.
He demanded answers to the allegations, saying that avoiding questions by making accusations is not acceptable. He emphasized that all evidence regarding the May 9 incident is available, and the entire PTI leadership is involved in the events of May 9.
It is noteworthy that earlier, reports had surfaced claiming that contact between the federal government and PTI had been restored. According to these reports, PTI leaders met National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq at the Speaker’s House, where Barrister Gohar, Umar Ayub, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Azam Nazir Tarar were also present.
