Senior actor Humayun Saeed said that the relationship between hero and heroine is not based on age but on character, as in Hollywood, Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep are still considered heroes and heroines.
Humayun Saeed recently emphasized in his speech at the 17th Urdu Conference at the Karachi Arts Council that the relationship between hero and heroine is not based on age but on character. He stated that in Hollywood, actors like Denzel Washington and Kevin Costner, who are 65 years old or older, still appear as heroes because a hero’s identity is based on character, not age. Similarly, Meryl Streep also plays leading roles as a heroine in Hollywood.
Humayun Saeed mentioned that in Pakistan, there is a specific perception regarding the roles of heroes and heroines, and it is often believed that a hero appears with a younger heroine. According to him, this is not the case in Western countries, where the age difference never affects the ability of the character.
He also said that the decision about the lead roles is made by the director or producer, who assesses which actor or actress will meet their expectations. Humayun Saeed also shared that when he started his career, actresses like Saniya Saeed, Saadia Imam, and Nadia Jamil played leading roles, and they are still seen in prominent roles today.
When the host asked whether Saniya Saeed and Nadia Jamil could return as heroines, Humayun Saeed responded that they are still seen in lead roles, and it is possible for them to be a part of more successful films in the future.
Humayun Saeed also appreciated when the host suggested that he should make a new installment of his popular film “Jawani Phir Nahi Ani,” featuring Saniya Saeed and Nadia Jamil. Humayun Saeed smiled and said that it is a good idea, and both actresses could be part of the film.
