Islamabad: The government has indicated the possibility of reducing the price of petrol and increasing the price of diesel for the next 15 days. The announcement of new petroleum product prices for the next 15 days will be made on January 1.
According to media reports, a reduction of 2 rupees per liter in the price of petrol is expected from January 1, while an increase of 3 rupees 62 paise per liter in the price of diesel is anticipated. As a result of this change, the price of petrol may reach 250 rupees 20 paise per liter, and after the increase, the price of diesel is expected to be 259 rupees per liter.
It has been reported that the price of light diesel is expected to increase by 3 rupees 03 paise per liter, making the new price 151 rupees 97 paise per liter, while kerosene oil may become 5 paise per liter more expensive, with the new price expected to be 161 rupees 71 paise per liter.
Sources have revealed that during the last 15 days, there was a slight increase in the average prices of HSD and LDO in the international market, while there was also a marginal increase in the ex-refinery cost of kerosene oil. However, there has been no change in the import premium on both petrol and diesel.
Currently, the price difference of petrol is very small, and it is likely to be adjusted within the domestic freight equalization margin. At present, the ex-depot price of petrol is 252 rupees 10 paise per liter, and the price of high-speed diesel is 255 rupees 38 paise per liter, while the government is collecting a tax of approximately 76 rupees per liter on both petrol and high-speed diesel.
