Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir is facing severe backlash on social media for selecting Harshit Rana over experienced fast bowler Mohammed Siraj in the squad.
According to media reports, Harshit Rana is considered one of Gambhir’s preferred players, and his inclusion at the expense of Siraj has sparked widespread criticism.
Rana is currently playing his debut ODI series against England, where he has taken four wickets in two matches. However, the right-arm pacer lacks a notable record in List A cricket, having taken 26 wickets in 16 matches and 31 wickets in 26 T20 games.
Gambhir, often accused of having a bias against Muslim players, is being criticized for favoritism in team selection. During the 2023 World Cup in India, Siraj was India’s leading pacer after Jasprit Bumrah but was still overlooked.
Gambhir is also being trolled for including Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) players Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy in the Indian squad.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj has been placed as a non-traveling reserve for the upcoming eight-nation tournament, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube.
