Former captain Wasim Akram has expressed strong frustration over the poor performance of the Pakistan cricket team in the Champions Trophy.
During his analysis on a private TV channel after the match, Wasim Akram openly criticized the team’s weak performance, poor strategy, and ineffective gameplay.
Wasim Akram stated that the Pakistan cricket team has become accustomed to defeats, and now is the time to bring in new young cricketers for the white-ball team who have no fear.
He said, “Even if we have to remove five or six big names from the team, and even if we lose for six months, we should bring in new players and give them full support.”
Wasim Akram emphasized that preparations for the 2026 World Cup should begin now. He added, “Enough is enough. We have given enough chances to the current players and seen their performance.”
Wasim Akram pointed out that in Pakistan’s five matches, all bowlers combined have taken 24 wickets at an average of 60.
The former fast bowler stated that in ODI cricket this year, Pakistan’s bowling has been the second-worst among 14 teams, including Oman and the USA.
He also criticized the team management, saying, “Now, the PCB chairman should call the selection committee, coach, and five legends and ask them, ‘What kind of selection was this?'”
Wasim Akram said, “We were screaming that this squad is not right. We kept saying there’s one day left to change the squad, but they held a one-hour meeting and came out with the same squad.”
He further added that the captain is also fully responsible for this situation because he is the leader of the team. “If he doesn’t know which match-winners he needs in his conditions and if we can’t even read the conditions, it’s a shame.”
Wasim Akram revealed that at the Dubai Stadium, only 8% or at most 10% of the spectators were Pakistani, but even they left by the 17th over of Pakistan’s bowling. He said, “I have never seen such a thing in Pakistan’s history.”
