In view of the severe heatwave across Punjab, the Punjab Education Department has decided to announce summer vacations in all public and private educational institutions in the province.
Punjab Secretary of Education Khalid Nazir Wattoo stated that, considering the current weather conditions, it has been decided that all schools in the province will begin summer vacations from June 1. However, if temperatures rise further and the heat intensifies abnormally, the schedule may be revised to start vacations in the last week of May.
The Secretary of Education clarified that this decision is being made keeping in view the health and safety of parents, students, and teachers, to prevent negative impacts on educational activities due to extreme heat. He further said that the current intensity of heat could be harmful to children’s health, hence, there is also a possibility of closing schools earlier.
The Education Department has instructed school administrations to monitor the weather situation and to immediately implement any new dates announced by the department. Additionally, teachers have been directed to educate students about drinking water, sun protection, and other precautionary measures during the heat.
Parents have appreciated the government’s move, considering it necessary to reduce health risks to children caused by the heat.
