Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that around 300 of its workers have been detained in Lahore during protests held to mark “Black Day,” while the party’s district president in Tando Allahyar, Advocate Nihal Lashari, was also arrested, and the Insaf House was sealed.
Speaking to a private TV channel, PTI Lahore President Imtiaz Sheikh stated that widespread protests were underway in the city. He said all ticket holders and workers had been directed to demonstrate within their constituencies. He alleged that Lahore police were conducting raids to arrest PTI leaders and supporters.
Party sources claimed that 300 workers have been taken into custody so far. They also reported that due to fear of police action, some PTI members of the Punjab Assembly avoided leaving the building the previous day.
Meanwhile, in Sindh’s Tando Allahyar district, PTI’s district president Advocate Nihal Lashari was arrested. A video showing him sitting inside a police vehicle has gone viral on social media. Following his arrest, the Insaf House in Tando Allahyar was locked, sparking unrest among party workers. So far, the police have not issued any official statement regarding the arrest.
According to PTI sources, Nihal Lashari had given a protest call for August 5 to mark two years since the arrest of PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan. He had also shared a video on social media appealing to traders to observe a shutdown strike.
