President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the urgent need for effective measures to reclaim minority worship places from illegal encroachments across the country.
During a meeting at the Presidency, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf met with the President to discuss the protection of minority rights, the promotion of religious tolerance, and the strengthening of interfaith harmony. The President appreciated the Ministry of Religious Affairs for its efforts in safeguarding the rights and welfare of minority communities.
In the meeting, Sardar Yousaf informed that under the Minority Welfare Fund, a total of 2,236 students have been awarded scholarships worth Rs 60 million, while 1,231 underprivileged individuals have been provided direct financial assistance.
He further stated that Rs 45 million has been allocated for the renovation and restoration of 32 minority worship places across the country to ensure these sacred sites are preserved in their original form and dignity. Additionally, regular consultations are being held with scholars of various religions to curb hate speech and promote interfaith understanding.
