Islamabad: Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Rashid Mahmood Langrial, has stated that work has formally begun on providing tax relief to the salaried class following directives issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking at a seminar organized by the Pakistan Business Council, Langrial said that the Prime Minister has also instructed authorities to reduce the super tax imposed on large companies. According to him, consultations at the government level are already underway to implement this directive.
He noted that the expansion of the tax base is essential for lowering tax rates, adding that the greater the number of taxpayers, the more feasible it becomes to reduce the overall tax burden.
The FBR chairman further revealed that the federal government is willing to gradually reduce—and eventually eliminate—the super tax on major companies and business entities in upcoming phases to lower business costs and stimulate economic growth.
