The federal government has categorically rejected speculations suggesting a rift between the civilian and military leadership, calling such claims completely baseless and misleading. Former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and close cabinet advisor Dr. Tauqeer Shah, while speaking to The News, said that rumours circulating on social media and within certain political circles regarding tensions between the government and Field Marshal Asim Munir have no truth to them.
He also dismissed reports claiming that differences were causing delays in the notification of the Chief of Army Staff / Chief of Defence Force (CDF). According to Dr. Shah, there is no fracture in the relationship between the civilian and military leadership; instead, both sides enjoy a calm, strong, and highly coordinated working relationship.
Dr. Shah further clarified that PML-N leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif holds deep respect for Field Marshal Asim Munir and has, on multiple occasions, praised his professionalism, commitment, and service to the nation. He added that Nawaz Sharif’s vote in favour of the 27th Constitutional Amendment reaffirmed his continued support for institutional strengthening and the military leadership.
Terming the circulating rumours and delays in notification as mischief, Dr. Shah said that narratives based on speculation do nothing except create confusion at a time when stability and unity are essential. He stressed that the elected government and military leadership share an exceptionally harmonious relationship, with complete consensus on national priorities and objectives. Any claims to the contrary, he said, are unfounded.
