Rawalpindi: Former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed said that the government should not limit facilities only to vehicle owners but must also ensure the right to livelihood for street vendors and cart owners.
Sheikh Rasheed appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi along with his lawyers during the hearing of the May 9 GHQ attack case.
Talking to the media outside the court, he said that street vendors and small stall holders are being treated unfairly, as officials from various departments overturn their goods, although these items are their only source of income.
The former minister said that he could only appeal for mercy towards street vendors and cart owners, stressing that the government should provide them the right to live instead of offering facilities solely to vehicle owners.
He further said that serious efforts should be made to eliminate unemployment and inflation in the country so that ordinary citizens can get relief.
