Uncertainty continues over Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup, however, a cricket website has claimed that a final decision on the matter is expected on January 21. According to the report, consultations regarding Bangladesh’s participation or withdrawal have now entered the final stage.
Regarding travel to India for the T20 World Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board remains firm on its stance, and no final decision has yet been announced. The website reported that the issue is still under consideration, with various options being discussed.
According to the report, during a meeting with an ICC delegation in Dhaka, the Bangladesh Cricket Board requested that matches be moved to an alternative venue instead of being played in India. However, the ICC clearly informed the BCB about the deadline and rejected Bangladesh’s request for a group change.
Bangladesh had expressed its desire to swap groups with Ireland in Group B, but the ICC did not accept this proposal. The cricket website stated that a final decision regarding Bangladesh’s participation or non-participation in the World Cup is expected on January 21.
BCB President Nazmul Hassan said that even if Bangladesh does not participate in the World Cup, the board will not suffer any financial loss, as the financial arrangements have already been settled.
According to the report, the ICC has provided complete security assurances to Bangladesh and is now awaiting the BCB’s final response. If Bangladesh refuses to participate in the World Cup, another team may be included based on ICC rankings, with Scotland being considered as a possible replacement.
