Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has claimed that PTI founder chairman Imran Khan is being denied basic human rights and was secretly shifted from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on Saturday evening, where he underwent eye surgery.
Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Salman Akram Raja said that government circles continued to mislead the public about Imran Khan’s health for five days. He stated that when the government finally acknowledged the matter, they visited Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan’s personal physician, Dr. Asim, and eye specialist, Dr. Khurram, were also present.
The PTI secretary general said that Imran Khan’s eye surgery was performed at PIMS, but his family was not informed about the reason for shifting him to the hospital. He termed the situation a serious violation of transparency and fundamental rights.
According to Salman Akram Raja, around 200 parliamentarians are currently present outside the Supreme Court. He said that he and Latif Khosa had earlier attempted to meet Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, but the meeting could not take place as the chief justice was not present in his chamber.
He added that, on the instructions of the chief justice, they later met the registrar of the Supreme Court, who is himself a sessions judge, and briefed him on the entire situation. Salman Akram Raja said that the attorney general has also been informed of all developments, while 16 petitions have already been submitted to the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, but no action has been taken so far.
