President of the country, Dr. Arif Alvi, has sent back the Practice and Procedure Bill to the Supreme Court without signing it, bypassing the Parliament.
According to a statement issued by the President’s House, President Alvi said that the issue of the bill’s accuracy is before the judicial forum, so further action on the bill is not appropriate out of respect for the matter being under consideration.
The bill related to judicial reforms was passed with a majority vote in a joint session of Parliament on April 10.
After approval from Parliament, the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill was returned to the President for his signature, but he sent it back to the court to be heard again. The bill will be enacted on April 20 on its own.
Previously, President Arif Alvi had sent the Constitutional Amendment Bill back to Parliament for reconsideration under Article 75 of the Constitution related to judicial reforms.
