Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the country’s first employment policy for young people and a 10 per cent annual quota for startups, saying the government has already provided laptops to 700,000 deserving students purely on merit.
Addressing an event marking International Youth Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the introduction of the first employment policy for young people and said a 10 per cent quota would be allocated to startups every year.
The prime minister said 700,000 deserving students had been provided laptops on merit, recalling that in the past the laptop distribution programme was criticised as an attempt to bribe young people.
Shehbaz Sharif said that while a laptop might be just a machine for some people, for his government it represented a mission.
He said Pakistan would fall behind if its young people were not brought into the journey of modern education, adding that development was not possible without providing equal educational opportunities to the youth.
The prime minister also announced that the Danish Schools network would be expanded to other provinces.
Shehbaz Sharif further announced that a Danish University would be established in Islamabad next year to provide educational opportunities to young people.
The prime minister said that students who did not have the financial means but had the required academic merit would find the doors of Danish University open to them.
