Karachi: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh province has arrested a former police officer involved in a murder during the CTD’s operation in Karachi. The suspect had been sentenced to death and had been on the run for 29 years.
According to details, the CTD’s Inspection Division conducted an operation in the University Road area of Karachi.
CTD spokesperson Chaudhry Safdar stated that the suspect, who had been sentenced to death, was apprehended after 29 years during the operation.
Chaudhry Safdar mentioned that the criminal had targeted an individual opposing the government during his duty by firing from a government-issued rifle. After being granted bail, the suspect went into hiding and changed his identity.
The accused, Ghulam Hussain, was recruited into the police force in the year 1990, and his posting was at Bayi G. Sharif Police Station in 1994.
During his duty, he encountered a person named Anwar, whom the criminal Ghulam Hussain shot and killed by firing from his government-issued SMG.
Incharge of the CTD stated that the suspect was arrested at the scene, then released on bail and disappeared. The District and Session Court in Sukkur had sentenced the culprit to death.
Incharge has stated that the criminal is being handed over to the relevant police.
