The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for petitions against military trials filed by the Swellings in Military Courts on July 18th and issued notices to both parties.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial will preside over a six-member larger bench, comprising Justice Ajazul Ahsan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi, and Justice Ayesha Malik.
The Supreme Court has issued notices to both parties for the hearing scheduled on July 18th.
Previously, the final hearing took place on June 27th, during which Justice Yahya Afridi had proposed forming a full court to hear petitions against military trials for civilian defendants.
In the final hearing, the Supreme Court had deferred the hearing indefinitely, rejecting the request from petitioners to halt trials in military courts.
It is worth noting that on June 21st, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, had formed a nine-member larger bench under his leadership, scheduling the hearing for four petitions filed against the prosecution of civilian cases under the Army Act in military courts.
Chairman PTI, former Chief Justice Jawad S. Khawaja, renowned lawyer Itzaz Ahsan, and the Sol site had filed petitions against the prosecution of civilian cases in military courts under the Army Act.
