Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has stated that despite sending our leader Nawaz Sharif to jail, we demonstrated our strength by contesting elections. As a politician, I believe that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) should not be allowed to participate in the general elections.
In his statement, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that those responsible for the violent incidents on May 9 should not be allowed to engage in politics. Besides the groups involved in the incidents, everyone should be permitted to contest elections.
Rana Sanaullah mentioned that investigations into the May 9 incidents are underway. The investigation is being conducted by the army and civilian agencies, and I cannot disclose details about the investigation like Shahzad Akbar did in the media. I am in contact with the agencies.
He stated that the PTI Chairman imposed unlawful duties on May 9.
Regarding the return of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah stated in his statement that the decision to return to the country lies with Nawaz Sharif himself. He wants to come back and launch an election campaign.
He said that Nawaz Sharif needs relief from the Islamabad High Court. If he receives relief from the court, challenging it in the Supreme Court would be meaningless. There is a higher possibility of him getting relief in this case.
Rana Sanaullah stated that legislation has been enacted regarding Article 62-F. Relief will be provided not only to Nawaz Sharif but also to the people. It will benefit the party to have Nawaz Sharif participate in the elections. He will make history by becoming the Prime Minister for the fourth time.
Expressing his thoughts on the duration of assemblies, Rana Sanaullah said that after the completion of the assembly’s tenure, a caretaker setup will be established. The majority agrees that according to the constitution, the assemblies should be dissolved. The Election Commission is free to provide a schedule for elections.
He said that the second week of October or the first week of November will be the election.
