The Islamabad High Court adjourned the hearing on Imran Khan’s request for suspension of sentence due to the non-appearance of Election Commission’s lawyer Amjad Pervaiz.
Islamabad High Court’s bench, under the leadership of Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, conducted a hearing on the petition for the suspension of Imran Khan’s sentence. During the proceedings, Advocate Amjad Parvez, the representative of the Election Commission, appeared in court on behalf of the Deputy Advocate. However, Amjad Parvez couldn’t appear due to illness.
Amjad Pervez’s assistant counsel told the court that for the last 8 months we have not asked for adjournment, the doctor has recommended bed rest and my lawyer’s letter is not in this case.
In response, Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that the suspension of sentence request is now at a crucial stage. The arguments were expected to be completed within 15 to 20 minutes. Friday was not available, and we could have extended the case until Monday, but we chose not to. We could have taken up the trial court’s work as well, but we won’t do that. Whatever the trial court did was wrong. We will adjourn it until Monday, and if no one appears, we will make a decision.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s lawyer Latif Khosa said that a person has been in jail for 20 days, then the chairman will keep the PTI in jail for another three days? Then we will not appear in court, do what you have to do.
Later, the court granted the adjournment request of Amjad Parvez advocate of the Election Commission and adjourned the hearing till Monday.
