Former Prime Minister and senior leader of the Muslim League (N), Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, has stated that the current situation in the country is dire, and awards are being distributed amidst these circumstances.
Addressing the audience at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce Awards ceremony, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi remarked that the government cannot improve conditions while operating on a 24% interest rate. If the government provides free land for industries, what catastrophe would befall upon us?
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi asserted that the country’s current conditions do not warrant any awards. This time, around three hundred awards were bestowed, and it is a travesty that we are not concerned about the state of our nation or where we stand. Our collective failure is that we don’t realize the situation our country is in. If the country’s revenues are increased by 20 billion dollars, half of the problems will be resolved.
The former Prime Minister stated that the issue of the dollar is a matter of supply and demand like other commodities. We have had opportunities, but we haven’t done anything substantial. We need to enhance our businesses; it’s the government’s duty to venture beyond commerce.
He stated that in a country where the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) exists, no government can function. The problem lies not in the bureaucracy but in the politicians. A country with political discord cannot prosper. Until the establishment, judiciary, and all stakeholders work together to find solutions, there won’t be any resolution.
He emphasized that our institutions are in conflict with each other. The President of the Election Commission is in conflict with the state. Progress cannot be made without elections. The leadership of this country has a final opportunity; anything can happen after that.
