In Lahore, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has declared a protest against inflation. They plan to hold this protest in front of the Governor Houses in all four provinces.
Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Siraj-ul-Haq, stated that the decision has been made to stage protests outside all four Governor Houses. Yesterday, the people and the business community of Pakistan observed a peaceful and successful strike. The strike sent a message that they do not accept the agreements made by previous governments.
Siraj-ul-Haq said that the IPP contracts are causing financial losses to the country. We will scrutinize the details of these contracts and take the matter to the Supreme Court. Electricity is cheaper in our neighboring countries, and here, the people are facing hardships.
They said that the government intends to further increase the electricity price by Rs. 90 per unit. Electricity bills are higher than people’s incomes, and they are selling their belongings to pay the bills. Prime Minister’s Advisor on Energy Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has downplayed the electricity issue as a non-issue.
It seems they are either unaware or indifferent to our IMF commitments. In the past month, they have increased the prices of electricity, petrol, diesel, and LPG. Sugar is now available at a price ranging from 190 to 200 rupees per kilogram.
They questioned, ‘If the government buys expensive electricity, why burden the public with it?’ The country doesn’t invest in long-term projects, which leads to issues. Steal, but don’t harm the people.
