The most prestigious awards in the international film industry were dominated by Hollywood’s romantic comedy-drama film Anora, which claimed five Oscars, including Best Picture.
The star-studded 97th Academy Awards ceremony took place on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
This year’s Oscars proved to be highly unpredictable, making it difficult for analysts to forecast the winners of key categories such as Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
In the competition across 23 categories, Anora secured five awards, The Brutalist won three, and Wicked, Amelia Perez, and Dune: Part Two each won two awards.
The highest-grossing film of the year, Anora, won in five major categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Editing, and Best Original Screenplay.
The Brutalist bagged three Oscars, including Best Actor, Best Original Score, and Best Cinematography.
Wicked won awards for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design, while Spanish film Amelia Perez claimed Oscars for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song.
Additionally, Dune: Part Two received awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.
In the Best Picture category, Anora triumphed over A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, I Am Still Here, Nickel Boys, and The Substance.
The Best Director award went to Anora’s director, Sean Baker, competing against directors from The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Amelia Perez, and The Substance.
The Best Actor award was won by Adrien Brody for The Brutalist, defeating competitors Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes, and Sebastian Stan.
Mikey Madison won the Best Actress award for Anora, competing against Carla Sofia, Cynthia Erivo, Demi Moore, and Fernanda Torres.
The Best Supporting Actress award went to Zoe Saldana for the Spanish film Amelia Perez, beating nominees Ariana Grande, Monica Barbaro, Isabella Rossellini, and Felicity Jones.
The Best Supporting Actor award was won by Kieran Culkin for A Real Pain, surpassing nominees Guy Pearce, Edward Norton, Jeremy Strong, and Yura Borisov.
