The United States strongly condemned the recent terrorist incident in Pahalgam, located in Indian-occupied Kashmir, and expressed solidarity with the victims. However, it refrained from taking any position on the status of Jammu and Kashmir.
US State Department spokesperson, Tammy Bruce, during a press briefing, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed in the attack and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
She emphasized that those responsible for the attack must be brought to justice. However, when questioned about former President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate India-Pakistan relations, she declined to comment.
The spokesperson stated that it is a rapidly evolving situation, and the US is closely monitoring it. “At this time, we are not taking any position on the status of Jammu or Kashmir,” she added.
She clarified that both President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had already shared their views on the matter, and therefore, she would not make any further personal remarks.
It is worth noting that a recent terrorist attack in the tourist area of Pahalgam in occupied Kashmir claimed the lives of 26 Indian tourists, significantly escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.
