A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking the disqualification of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The petition, submitted by citizen Ashba Kamran, claims that Bilawal is a member of two political parties simultaneously, which constitutes a clear violation of the Election Act.
According to the petitioner, Bilawal Bhutto is not only affiliated with the Pakistan Peoples Party but also with the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians. As per electoral laws, no individual is permitted to hold membership in two separate political parties at the same time.
The petition argues that under such circumstances, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is ineligible to remain a member of the National Assembly. It calls for the Speaker of the National Assembly to refer the matter to the Election Commission for a decision on his disqualification.
The petition names the Federal Ministry of Law, the Election Commission of Pakistan, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as respondents. The court has been urged to take action on this constitutional and legal violation and to ensure the rule of law is upheld in future cases.
