A major terrorist attack targeting the Federal Constabulary (FC) Headquarters near Peshawar’s Saddar area was successfully foiled when security forces killed all three attackers during an intense exchange of fire.
According to security officials, militants affiliated with “Fitna al-Khawarij” carried out two suicide blasts that resulted in the martyrdom of three FC personnel and injuries to four others.
Inspector General of KP Police Zulfiqar Hameed confirmed that the first blast occurred at the main gate of the headquarters, followed shortly by a second explosion near the motorcycle parking area. He stated that the attackers attempted to storm the facility after the initial blast, but FC commandos and police responded swiftly, eliminating all three terrorists before they could inflict further damage. Authorities recovered two suicide vests and eight hand grenades from the attackers.
Security sources revealed that the assault appeared to be well-planned, and initial reports suggest that the attackers may have had links to Afghanistan. Soon after the explosions, the entire area was cordoned off and a full-scale clearance operation was initiated. Traffic on Sunehri Road was suspended and the BRT service was temporarily halted.
Casualties
The martyred FC personnel were identified as Havaldar Alamzeb of Platoon 277, Sepoy Riyazat of Platoon 478, and Sepoy Altaf of Platoon 277. The injured officials include Lance Naik Zeek, Sepoy Arshad, Sepoy Attaullah, and Sepoy Irfan, all of whom were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable. Additionally, six civilians injured in the blast were also brought to the hospital.
Residents reported that the blast was powerful enough to shatter the windows of nearby buildings, while heavy gunfire was heard immediately after the explosions.
Prime Minister’s Response
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, paying tribute to the security forces for preventing a larger tragedy through timely action. He instructed authorities to ensure immediate medical care for the injured and emphasized that the perpetrators would be identified and brought to justice. He reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to eradicating terrorism.
