Karachi: The Vice Chancellor of the Federal Urdu University, Professor Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari, along with senior officials of the institution, has filed a defamation lawsuit worth PKR 500 million against a former visually-impaired clerk, accusing him of damaging their reputation through false statements and allegations.
According to the defamation suit, the applicants include Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari, Dr. Shahid Iqbal, In-Charge Dean Faculty of Arts at the Abdul Haq Campus, Khurram Mushtaq, Assistant Registrar Faculty of Education, and Adeel Sabir, In-Charge Transport and Protocol Department at the Federal Urdu University. All four officials jointly filed the claim against former employee Abbas Ali.
The petition states that in March 2025, the clerk, Ghulam Abbas, who had become visually impaired, was retired on medical grounds after being paid all legal dues and entitlements. However, despite receiving his full benefits, the former employee allegedly resorted to actions and statements that harmed the professional integrity of the university administration and its senior officers.
The applicants maintain that these allegations amounted to defamation and caused irreparable damage to their personal and institutional reputation. They have urged the court to hold the accused accountable and order compensation for the loss caused by his statements.
