In Shikarpur’s Manchar Sheikh area, a major armed confrontation between police personnel and criminal groups resulted in the killing of nine bandits, while two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and several other officers sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire.
According to the SSP Shikarpur, police received credible information about the presence and movement of armed outlaws in the locality, after which a special operation was launched. As soon as police teams moved in, the bandits opened fire, prompting an immediate and intense retaliatory response from law enforcement units, he added.
Officials confirmed that the operation is still underway and heavy contingents of police are deployed across the area to locate additional hideouts of the suspects. The police are also employing armored vehicles along with drone surveillance technology to monitor and identify criminals hiding in difficult terrains.
The SSP further stated that DSP Garhi Yasin Zahoor Soomro and DSP City Paras Bakrani were among those injured in the shootout, while four other police personnel were also hit by bullets. All the injured officers have been shifted to hospitals where they are receiving medical treatment.
Law enforcement authorities say search operations have been intensified and more arrests or neutralizations of suspects are expected. The overall security situation is being closely monitored.
