Karachi narrowly escaped a major disaster as security agencies successfully foiled a large-scale terrorist plot through a timely operation, preventing potential loss of life and property in the city.
According to security officials, more than four tons of explosive material were recovered during an intelligence-based operation conducted in the Baldia Rais Goth area, where terrorists had allegedly stored the material for a planned attack.
Officials said that gas cylinders and a mini truck loaded with explosives were also taken into custody during the operation, as they were intended to be used in carrying out terrorist activities.
Security authorities stated that the operation was carried out following information provided by detained terrorists, whose disclosures during interrogation led to the identification of the hideout and the prevention of the planned attack.
According to officials, the terrorists were planning to transport the explosives-filled truck to I.I. Chundrigar Road to carry out a major act of terrorism, which could have caused widespread panic and destruction in the city.
Security officials further confirmed that the recovered explosive material was safely neutralized by the bomb disposal squad. The explosives had been transported into the city packed in drums, with a total of 60 drums and five gas cylinders seized during the operation.
